So far so good
Fri. November 19th 2010 3am
So far so good, my stack is growing and growing and so are all the strands. I haven't burst into crying yet, that usually happens AFTER the events. The pressure is on, I feel like running around our block and scream like a banshee but that might motivate the neighbors to call 911. So I just clench my teeth, and pretend like I don't see the stack of yarns that needs to be knit up, while I am writing this post. I am a lean mean knitting machine and I am going to show NYC how it's done. Tomorrow, in between knitting, I am also going to meet up with two ladies who are willing to model for me in...

Keeping my composure
Thu. November 18th 2010 2am
I am trying really really hard not to go bonkers. Breathe in...breathe out. Stay focused, trust that everything is going to be fine. I am going to be in a private craft event this Sunday, and on December 11th and 12th I am going to be in a bigger Craft Event in NYC. I will be showing off my stuff and hopefully selling them too. That's a lot of fun and I am so happy with these hook ups, but it also means that I've got to do a lot of production knitting! Believe you me, production knitting is rather stressful... NO WHINING! No whining allowed around here! If you take on a craft event, you've...

Cravings
Wed. November 17th 2010 3am
The one candy that I miss the most from the Netherlands is Dutch licorice. Just a couple of weeks ago, I craved Dutch licorice so bad that I mentioned it on Face Book and my cousin generously offered to send my some. And today, a packaged filled with candy and licorice arrived from the Netherlands: Dear reader, I was so happy, I felt like a kid again. Munching on all that sugary goodness brought me right back to the time when me and my cousin were kids. Two girls going to the library on Wednesday's, spending all our allowance on candy and sharing it with our...

How to design your own cowl
Tue. November 16th 2010 4am
Today, I am going to show you how to design your very own cowl. I want to be as transparent as possible in this tutorial and take away any mystique with regard to designing. You will then see how easy it is and hopefully you will feel confident enough and say: "I can do that!" We will work with the Zara cowl, which I found online, and we will try to create one that looks like it. This is called "reverse engineering". Are you ready? Let's go! Step 1: Determining what stitch pattern to use and swatching After looking closely at our Zara cowl picture, I have determined what stitch...

A Friday in Brooklyn
Sat. November 13th 2010 1am
Another bright and sunny day in early November in NYC. Can you believe it? I welcomed it with open arms and jumped on the subway to find my way to Brooklyn where I was to meet up with artist Faune Yerby. We both met in Portland, Oregon and just by chance we bumped into each other during the Makers Fair in Queens last September. A couple of days ago Faune asked me on Face Book if I was able to help her out with a knitting job. Knowing that Faune makes gorgeous handspun yarn, I grabbed the opportunity. A knitting job with chunky handspun yarn??? YES I AM IN!!! On a rooftop in...

Smooth Operator
Fri. November 12th 2010 2am
Don't you just love it when your knitted item looks smooth and well finished? I always strive for that and this means that the job is not done when your item comes off of your needles. This morning I pulled out a bunch of Lana Gloves I had finished knitting a few weeks ago. I could have just seamed them and be done with it if it weren't for my compulsive need to deliver a smooth and slick looking item. Call me the smooth operator. Take a look at my Lana gloves right off the needles. See how "frumpy" they look? As if they just woke up and rolled out of bed? The stitch pattern used in this...

On the hunt
Wed. November 3rd 2010 1am
Today I went on the hunt for yarn for my Three Ladies Project. I went to Schoolproducts Yarns on Broadway in the Fashion district and found a donegal tweed/cashmere blend in a grey color with a hint of blue here and there. Perfect for Charly's headband! It was my first time at this shop and I need to go back to browse a little bit more. It's simply fantastic, they have cashmere yarns on cones that are very reasonably priced. For Sherice I already bumped into the perfect yarn and color: Cascade Venezia in a bright fuchsia color. This color resembles her business colors (more of that later...

A new month!
Tue. November 2nd 2010 1am
Hi there, how was every body's weekend? Did you get some knitting done, and if so, what are you knitting on?I have been knitting on socks, which is a rare thing for me to knit! Today, the first day of a new week and the first day of a brand new month, we had STELLAR weather here in NYC. The sun was shining so brightly and the yellow leaves on the tree looked golden against the backdrop of a clear blue sky. It was breathtakingly beautiful and we just had to go out and take a stroll. What a great way to start our week... Now let's see what's in store at Getting Purly With It in the next few...

Free Pattern: Seattle gloves WORSTED weight
Sun. October 31st 2010 5pm
Last but not least, finally released today the Seattle WORSTED weight fingerless gloves knitted with needle size US#7. The yarn used here are Malabrigo (red) and an unidentified worsted weight in my stash (brown). Just like the Seattle ARAN, I included two sizes: medium Mens and medium Womens. For picture tutorials and DK/ARAN sizes click here and here. Frogging makes you a stronger knitter... In order to find out how much yarn was in each glove, I frogged the pieces. My husband asked me if that was hard to do and my answer is: not at all! Frogging, or ripping out, is part of knitting/...

Swatch it!
Fri. October 29th 2010 9pm
At the beginning of this week I also planned to work on the Zara Cowl and I had hoped to have made more progress on the project. Instead, the whole Seattle glove re-calclulation thing took more time than I had anticipated. Also, I promised to put out the Seattle Worsted weight pattern today, but my brains are all tangled up and that is not a good thing when you need to write and proof read a knitting pattern. So, I am going to push that one to the coming week. Surely you will understand... Swatching on the Large Basket Stitch One of the things I love most when preparing for a new...
