Flowers in the palm of my hands
Fri. November 26th 2010 6pm
This morning, when I woke up from a turkey induced coma, I had only one thing on my mind: knitting fingerless gloves for my next craft event. I have already knitted over 10 pairs over the past week and I just can't get enough of it. I simply love making them and lucky me, fingerless gloves are somehow very in vogue these days. Today I would like to share with you were my love for fingerless gloves finds its origin. When I first came to the USA in 2001 I had a very vivid dream. By that time I had no idea what this dream meant, only thing I knew was that it was a beautiful dream, one I still...

A Friday in Brooklyn
Sat. November 13th 2010 1am
Another bright and sunny day in early November in NYC. Can you believe it? I welcomed it with open arms and jumped on the subway to find my way to Brooklyn where I was to meet up with artist Faune Yerby. We both met in Portland, Oregon and just by chance we bumped into each other during the Makers Fair in Queens last September. A couple of days ago Faune asked me on Face Book if I was able to help her out with a knitting job. Knowing that Faune makes gorgeous handspun yarn, I grabbed the opportunity. A knitting job with chunky handspun yarn??? YES I AM IN!!! On a rooftop in...

A Sweet Encounter in the Subway
Tue. November 9th 2010 8pm
Riding the NYC subway sure is a new experience to me. Most of the times, I get a bit freaked out because of the crowds but also because of the fact that eye contact is hardly made, nor do people tend to smile. At least, so I have experienced. On a ride to Queens, a lady was wearing a beautiful cotton dress embellished with lace and embroidery. I smiled at her, she gave me a nasty look in return and pulled her purse closer to her. On another occasion, I caught a person staring at me and when I looked back, this person acted as if I had caught them doing a bad thing and hastily looked away. So...

Feeling elated...
Fri. October 22nd 2010 10pm
First of all, uh oh, I found a typo in the Vanessa Headband pattern last night! I corrected it immediately and if you have downloaded the pattern before or on October 21, get rid of it and download the new and corrected one! If you have downloaded the Vanessa Headband pattern after October 21, you should be fine. Sorry about, folks, although I try to be very concise and precise, sometimes a typo just sneaks up on you. Inspiring Events Over the past few weeks I had the pleasure to attend several inspiring presentations. The owner of Madeline Tosh held a presentation...

Needles on Fire
Sat. October 16th 2010 3am
My needles have been on fire over the past few days. There hasn't been a moment where I haven't been knitting and project after project have been completed continuously. Oh joy, oh joy, that powerful creative energy is back and I welcome it with wide open arms. When it comes around, it sure does come around and I jump on it with much delight. Fast and easy Fast, easy and instant satisfaction have been my mantra. Super bulky yarn, needlesize #17, oh yeah, just the way I like it! Just the other day, while I was browsing through the knitwear section of Urban Outfitters, I spotted an infinity...

Summer has finally arrived in San Francisco
Fri. September 3rd 2010 10pm
Summer has finally arrived in San Francisco, at least so it seems. Locals have been telling me that the cold weather in June, July and August was something they were not accustomed to. Fingers crossed that the sun will keep on shining in the next days of September because I have a task to fulfill. A hotel room too tiny for my thoughts For our final days in San Francisco we are staying at a hotel in a tiny room. My thoughts don't have the room to wander freely and during the day I escape our hotel room to write and daydream in a tea house somewhere in the Castro neighborhood. A cup of tea, a...

Where's my Muse?
Fri. August 27th 2010 1am
I am searching for my muse... I haven't seen her around in a bit and am anxiously awaiting her return. She comes to me in many forms and when she appears before me, I always recognize her immediately. Last time we had an encounter, she appeared to me as a burlesque dancer during an art exhibit at the COBRA Museum in Amsterdam, December 2009: As soon as I saw her dancing and prancing around with her bright blue and red feathers, I was hold spellbound and wanted to knit something naughty. Her free, unapologetic, feminine and sexy energy stuck with me and I was able to translate it...

Images, Mood and Inspiration
Tue. August 24th 2010 11pm
Ever since I purchased the natural color Malabrigo Rasta yarn, and ever since I mentioned the ermine, lots of images have been popping up in my mind's eye. These images evoked a certain mood within me, which leads to inspiration and ultimately a better understanding of design #1 which I am having a lot of trouble with. Slowly but surely, design #1 is allowing me to capture her, to define her, to find a name for her. I know she wants to reveal herself, but as soon as I think I have a grip on her, she slips through my hands and leaves me grasping in nothing much but...

A challenging project
Thu. May 20th 2010 6am
My wooden basket became too small for the amount of poppies I have knitted so far and I had to transfer my colorful pretties to a glass bowl. I have knitted 80 poppies so far, only 20 more to go. My glass bowl can hardly contain this abundance of goodness and is about to overflow. I simply love it! Knitting the poppies for my Poppies of Endearment project has been easy. The challenging part is yet to come. A challenging project on several levels After I have knitted a 100 poppies, I will cluster 3 poppies together, attach an affirmation/saying/poem, place them somewhere in San...

Where have you been revisited
Sat. May 1st 2010 6pm
I am very busy packing and running around doing all kinds of stuff and have absolutely no time to blog! I can however, show you one of my favorite blogpost called "Where have you been". I wrote this in July 2007. Enjoy... Where have you been..? "I have always been here, you silly. Waiting for you to open the gates..." ~ Inspiration This morning I heard a firm knock on my front door. It woke me up immediately and a sweet sense of excitement bloomed in my heart. With my hair still ruffled and my eyes swollen from a good night's rest I rushed to the front door,...
