La Casita Yarn Shop Cafe in Brooklyn Part 2: Community
Thu. July 23rd 2015 11am
Continuing putting La Casita Yarn Shop Cafe in Brooklyn in the spotlight this week, I would like to highlight a very important part of this shop: its community. What gives La Casita Yarn Shop Cafe its life and soul is the tight knit community of knitters and crocheters. I love how there is always something happening. Jenn, the fabulous owner of La Casita Yarn Shop Cafe, makes sure that her community is entertained with classes, fashion shows, trunkshows, and simply gatherings of knitters and crocheters. Her keen eye on what is happening in the industry and what...

La Casita Yarn Shop Cafe in Brooklyn
Tue. July 21st 2015 12pm
Situated in the Cobble Hill area of Brooklyn, resides an adorable yarn shop named "La Casita Yarn Shop Cafe". Petite in size, however grand in character, this yarn shop stole my heart when I first found it when I had just arrived in New York City back in 2010. As I entered the shop rather shyly, I was immediately taken by its friendliness and I couldn't help but feel being "home". I took at a seat at the bar, ordered a latte and and simply soaked in all the good energy that was floating around. In the background, I could hear merengue music soflty...

Gratitude is the Attitude
Tue. July 7th 2015 3pm
Just the other week, while having a lunch meeting at Bryant Park in Midtown Manhattan, I said to my friend: "You know, when I first came to NYC back in 2010, I felt so small. I felt so utterly insignificant. Nobody knew who I was." My friend smiled and replied:"Well, Nancy... You certainly changed that, didn't you?" I paused, and as if I was struck by lightening, it suddenly dawned upon me how I indeed changed the fact that nobody knew me here in NYC. And upon that realization, a feeling of immense grattitude filled my being. Making it work in NYC and...

My Biggest Mistake
Tue. June 16th 2015 3pm
My biggest mistake for the past 3 years, is not updating my website. Not showing up, not writing, not taking pictures is a big no no when you want to have some sort of an online presence. I have failed miserably in this regard. And when one fails there are two things you can do: you stay down... or... you get up again. What have you been up to, Nancy, for the past 3 years? Oh dear, been working hard, trying to get noticed in the city of all cities. I have had, just like anybody else, my ups and my downs. And just like anybody else, I have had my doubts and...

Trunkshow at La Casita Yarn Shop Cafe
Fri. September 16th 2011 3am
Last Tuesday my latest trunkshow kicked off at La Casita Yarn Shop Cafe in Brooklyn. I was planning on writing about this weeks ahead to keep you all informed, but alas, suddenly it became so busy in my life that I completely dropped the ball. What can I say... I have been horribly busy knitting other people's designs. Ah, but moving forward now while I am putting my excuses aside! Come have a glass of wine with me at La Casita! My trunkshow in which my designs for Jade Sapphire are being showcased started last Tuesday and will stay at La Casita until coming Tuesday....

A sigh of relief
Mon. August 29th 2011 8pm
Over the past weekend, Hurricane Irene passed through our region. She made landfall last Saturday in North Carolina and made her way through Virginia to the state of New York and further up north. Needless to say that we had some very anxious moments. Just the fact that a hurricane is coming straight at you is quite scary, I tell you. We were well prepared for Irene's visit: our fridge and pantry stuffed with lots and lots of groceries, candles and flashlight ready to go and a battery operated radio in case of a power outage. Luckily we could stay put in our little apartment, no...

How has your summer been?
Fri. August 26th 2011 1pm
Hi there, stranger! Long time no see... How has your summer been so far? I know, I know... I haven't been around here much. I am sorry, I didn't mean to leave you hanging like this... My summer has been good in many ways, but also challenging here and there. One thing is for sure though, I have been knitting all through summer! Still getting used to NYC It has almost been a year since we moved back to Manhattan and although I am very happy to be here, at times this energetic city can be a hard place to be in for me. This city is intense, I tell you. I have never ever...

Lacey Summer
Tue. August 9th 2011 3am
Several months ago, right before summer started, my friend from the blog Knittoo, posted an inspirational picture of several lace shawls on Pinterest. When I saw those gorgeous shawls made by the talented NJSTACIE, it inspired me to make lots and lots of lace shawls myself. I decided that I was going to carefully "study" lace knitting and boy did I have fun doing so. I have made 8 shawls in total over the last couple of months and I enjoyed making every single one of them. Today, I would like to share several of my favorite shawls with you, all of which are modeled by my gorgeous...

Mark Twain Quote
Fri. July 29th 2011 1pm
"Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great. When you are seeking to bring big plans to fruition, it is important with whom you regularly associate. Hang out with friends who are like-minded and who are also designing purpose-filled lives. Similarly, be that kind of a friend for your friends." ~ Mark Twain
